A rough guide only. Real output depends on your boiler’s flow temperature and the room itself, so we always confirm it on the survey before ordering.

Choosing a style

The radiators we fit most

Seen from above, a radiator is panels and fins. More of both means more heat from the same wall space.

Slimmest

Type 11 single panel

One panel, one row of fins. Good for small rooms, hallways and tight spaces behind doors.

Middle ground

Type 21 double panel

Two panels with fins between. More heat than a single without much extra depth.

Most popular

Type 22 double convector

Two panels, two rows of fins. The workhorse for living rooms and bedrooms.

Period homes

Column & vertical

Traditional or tall designer radiators. Great where wall width is short but height isn’t.

Bathrooms

Towel rails

Heated ladder rails for bathrooms and kitchens, in chrome, white or anthracite.

Fix or replace?

What your radiator is telling you

Not every cold radiator needs replacing. Here’s what we usually find, and what you can safely try first.

What you noticeUsual causeThe fix
Cold at the top, warm at the bottomAir trapped in the radiatorBleed it with a radiator key and top up the boiler pressure You can try this
Cold at the bottom or in the middleSludge (black iron oxide) settled insideRadiator flush, or a full system power flush if several are affected
One radiator stone coldStuck valve pin on the TRV, or the valve shutFree or replace the TRV, then rebalance
Downstairs hot, upstairs lukewarmSystem out of balance, or a tired pumpBalance every radiator; check the pump and circulation
Drips or green crust at a valveWorn valve gland or fittingRepack or replace the valve
Rust spots or pinhole leaks on the panelCorrosion from the inside outReplace the radiator; corrosion means the system needs inhibitor too

Radiator questions

What size radiator do I need?

It depends on the room size, how many outside walls and windows it has, and how well the house is insulated. Use the calculator on this page for a rough figure in watts and BTU. We confirm the exact output on our survey so the radiator actually heats the room.

How much does it cost to install a radiator?

A like-for-like swap is the cheapest job because the pipework is already there. New radiators that need pipework run to them cost more. We give a fixed price after a quick survey, and can often price simple swaps over the phone on 01942 466 486.

How long does radiator installation take?

A like-for-like swap usually takes 1 to 2 hours. A new radiator with pipework alterations is around half a day. A full house of radiators as part of a heating upgrade is normally 1 to 2 days.

Why is my radiator cold at the bottom?

Cold at the bottom or in the middle usually means sludge (black iron oxide) has settled inside. A radiator flush or a full system power flush clears it. Cold at the top is different: that is trapped air, and bleeding the radiator usually fixes it.

Can you move a radiator to a different wall?

Yes. We reroute the pipework, often under the floor, so you can put a radiator where it suits your new layout, and make good the old pipe runs.

Can you supply the radiators or do I buy my own?

Either. We can supply good-quality radiators at trade prices and guarantee the whole job, or fit radiators you have bought yourself.

Do new radiators reduce heating bills?

Modern radiators with thermostatic valves let you heat only the rooms you use, and a clean system heats up faster. Combined with a flush and balancing, most customers notice the difference.
